Artisan Friend…

SO have I mentioned that I have a serious jewelry addiction??!  A stylish purse, favorite piece of jewelry and sky high pair of heels can get you pretty far in this life.  But I digress.  Sweet friend and jewelry designer Christina Jervey let me into her new home this past week to tour her amazing new workspace and take my own version of the Proust Questionnaire…

Christy 1CG:  Why Jewelry?

CJ:  Jewelry is an outlet for personal expression.  I try not to think about the deeper social, psychological and anthropological meanings of jewelry and adornment.  But simply, jewelry makes you feel good (AMEN sister!!)

CG:  Which piece that you have designed is your favorite??!

CJ:  My wedding bands are my favorite piece ever.  I’ve had them on for seven straight years and love them more every day.  I not only love their meaning, but I love the simplicity of the design.

CG:  What are your primary influences??!

CJ:  Nature has never ceased to amaze me.  Clearly there are alot of organic influences in my work.  From texture to form, I love irregular shapes and imperfect design.  I love finding beauty in imperfection.  Recently I’ve started incorporating more geometric and modern lines into my creations.  Trending towards a minimal, modern approach to design.

CG:  If you could custom make a piece for anyone, who would it be and what would you make them??!

CJ:  Engagement bands are my favorite piece of jewelry to make.  There is not a specific person I’d like to design for, but just knowing this piece will be worn indefinitely and symbolizes a union of marriage is completely gratifying.

CG:  What kind of Halloween candy are you giving out??!

CJ:  Reeses Cups…hands down fav Halloween candy!

I had so much fun-tried a million pieces on, marveled at her inspiration board…and came away with her amazing new 14 Karat Gold Hand Forged Neck Cuff.  On the wish list….her signature Stick Earrings, Organic Ruby Band, and Talon Pendant.

Thank you so much for the tour!  I can’t wait to see who’s going to be my next interviewee!!!  To see more of Christy’s work click HERE.

Black on Black on Black…

Black on Black on Black…classic!   A silk shirt+skinny pants+heels+lots o’ jewels pretty much sums me up in the fall and winter months when I am trying to throw something together that is comfortable and acceptable for work.  My two favorites from this outfit are the James Jeans Twiggy Legging in flat black and my Christina Jervey Goddess Cuff.

Pitt Street in the OV provided the perfect setting for Kim and I to snap these pics.  One of the many streets in our beautiful city that has remained for the most part untouched!!  Cozy up to the counter at the Pitt Street Pharmacy for the best grilled cheese ever and a real cherry coke.   Stop in Out of Hand for a unique retail experience then lunch at The Old Village Post House.  Views of the Harbor are a stone’s throw away…perfection!

Get outside!  It’s gorgeous out there!!!  XO, Catherine

Weekend Away…

And not a moment too soon (oh lordy life is busy!!). We are going to the quiet beach side community of Ocean Isle, NC for our annual high school girls weekend!  I always over pack-so this year I am trying to focus on quality NOT quantity.  Thankfully the weekend will consist of relaxing at the beach house so I don’t have to worry about day and night looks.  My wardrobe (should) consist of comfortable pieces that will work for cocktails at the house or if we head out for the delicious locally caught seafood Ocean Isle is known for.  Weekend EssentialsBillabong Lightweight sweatshirt (available in store at Salty Girls) $45/Joe’s Jeans Vintage Reserve Tammy $98
Jack Rogers Neon Vachetta Thong $98 (I’m totally obsessed!!)/Old Navy Chambray Shirt Old Navy $15

Weekend Essentials 2Other weekend essentials include my favorite necklaces by Melvin and Jennifer Zeuner, Christina Jervey square hoop earrings and gold shoulder duster earrings from II Brunettes.  Sample size skin and hair care products (who needs to carry full size for a 72 hour trip!!) and my Kindle Fire.  I just downloaded Tilar Mazzeo’s new novel The Hotel on Place Vendome.

We will be making these delicious Orange-Lime Margaritas created by Emily author of one of my favorite blogs- Cupcakes and Cashmere and enjoying tons of tasty treats courtesy of this talented crew!  Maybe I’ll share some favorite recipes next week in Nosh.
Rain is in our forecast so I predict plenty of cocktails, card games, chit-chat and fun for a group of friends with a 25 year history.
Whatever you are doing this weekend I hope it is spectacular!  xoxo,  Catherine
