December, What’s Happening…

I can not believe it’s December.  I don’t know about you…but this one snuck up on me!  Work is in no danger of slowing down, fun parties and holiday obligations are ramping up-it can be a lot!  When it’s most hectic I have to take a beat, read a page, work it out, etc or I’ll go bonkers!  Here is a look at some of my quiet moments for December.  Enjoy!

~I’m Reading:  A Paris Winter by Imogen Robertson is a novel about a young English art student living on the edge of financial run and hunger in Paris at the turn of the 20th century.  Fate throws her an opportunity to continue her studies without the constant threat of ruin…but all is not what it seems.  An easy read, cozy up by the fire, quick to the finish novel.  I recommend!

I’m Ordering:  Another attempt at keeping my hair smooth in the humid Charleston climate, Purely Perfect Cleansing Cream.  This “un-shampoo” is devoid of all harsh detergents and includes Aloe Vera and essential oils to treat, rather than strip your hair and scalp.  Let’s be honest…if it works 25% of the time…it’s a success!

Purely Perfect

I’m Eagerly Awaiting:  Into the Woods directed by Rob Marshall starring Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Depp-among many others.  It looks like the typical, schmaltzy, wonderful offering we are so used to from Rob Marshall and I cannot wait!  Perfect for a Christmas Day release.

into-the-woods-poster1I’m Glossing:  I know, shocked right-a new gloss, it’s so unlike me!  On a recent shopping trip a friend introduced me to Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupte #20 Nude Carat!  Delish…the color is wearable on it’s own or perfect over a darker lipstick (think YSL The Mats lipstick in Rouge Rock!!).
YSL gloss volupte #20Check out Punch Hutton’s 2014 Holiday Gift Guide on Vanity Fair online.  It’s chock full of out of this world suggestions for everyone on your list!  My personal favorite is one of the more subdued selections…this Clare Vivier Catchall.  I might be ordering and putting this beaut under the tree for ME!

Happy Hump Day Friends…XOXO,  Catherine

Let’s be honest…nothing is more fun than wandering through a make-up/beauty/hair product superstore!  I was able to indulge last night after work-I desperately needed the Ulta re-load.

Ulta Reload 3

I love Jen Ann’s new line of hair products, Living Proof.  We all battle the constant humidity on the coast-my hair is super out of control during the summer months.  Her No Frizz formula works wonders and does not weigh my hair down.  Winner!

Ulta has its own line of cosmetics…perfect for the basics that you don’t want to break the bank on.  I picked up this bone eyeshadow that I wear as a base color for $7 bucks!

I recently did a purge on the nail basket…colors I still love, but are 3+ years old get thrown in the trash!  Essie is my favorite polish brand.  They go on, stay on and without a doubt have the best wand!  I picked up Haute As Hello and Topless & Barefoot for a little end of summer spruce!

I always have pressed translucent in the purse make-up bag.  Who doesn’t need the mid-day touch up??!  My product of choice is Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder in translucent.

Because there is never enough lip gloss in my life, I grabbed a Philosophy Vanilla Birthday Cake lip shine.  They are the best…and stay on forever!

Getting home I was delighted to find the September Vanity Fair Style Issue with Natalia Vodianova on the cover.  The photography in this issue trumps all the other annual VF issues(in my humble opinion).  The featured style icons are the most clever mix of haute couture mavens, street style fashionistas and everything in between.  There was also a page dedicated to fashion bloggers that I have not seen in past Style issues.  GO VF…way to support!

Happy Friday everyone…I am ready to the bell to ring!  XOXO,  Catherine

It’s Friday, Funday, Friday, Friday…

Beach Reading

~Looking back…Today is the 70th anniversary of DDay-the epic battle that changed the course of WWII.  Vanity Fair’s profile of Robert Capa’s Longest Day details the iconic photographers’ landing on the beach at Normandy with the 1st Infantry Division.  Only 11 of his photos made it through the battle.  They are truly amazing, as is his story.

~The 80’s called…To say that Club Monaco has brought back Tretorns.  They are totally tubular!  Really!

~Put the tissues in the purse…The Fault in Our Stars goes into wide release this weekend.  Starring Hollywood favorites Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, it has distinct shades of Terms of Endearment.

~JCrew Sale alert…JCrew has 25% off select summer styles through June 8th.  I am loving this silk confection and this halter one-piece and these flower bud tassel earrings.

~nomnom…I can’t wait to try Leon’s Fine Oysters & Poultry downtown.   The menu consists of fried seafood, chicken and all the appropriate accoutrements.  The wine & craft beer lists look extensive…there is even a “cheap beer” selection featuring Keystone Light.  YUM!

~Tory’s Take...Recently speaking at the Babson College commencement, style icon and industry leader Tory Burch regaled the class of 2014 with her thoughts on what it takes to be a true entrepreneur in today’s world of instant gratification, Instagram, instant everything.  For the complete speech, click here.  She’s awesome…it’s as simple as that.

~It’s a Charleston tradition…The 2014 Spoleto Festival wraps up this weekend with the finale at Middleton Place featuring Charleston’s own Shovels & Rope.  It is a day of picnics, fine food, craft beer and live music in the beautiful gardens at Middleton.  I can’t go this year (sad face) but you definitely should!

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Mine is starting in exactly 47 minutes…but who’s counting!

XOXO,  Catherine
